E! Online's "Guilty Pleasures" column has a nice name-check of THE WEEK-END BOOK.
Working for the Weekend
Remember when the weekends were all about relaxing on the estate while the servants took care of your needs? Yeah, neither do we. Which is part of the charm of The Week-End Book (Overlook Press), an impossibly rich tome published yearly between 1922-1955. This new version, essentially a greatest-hits version edited by Francis Meynell, is filled with entries on party games, drink recipes, birdsong, etiquette, first aid, tips for breaking the law and a fascinating little tidbit on what to do if a corpse washes up on your property. Seriously, how could you not need a book like this? They did steal my Loverboy-quoting headline from a few weeks ago, but to their credit there are surprisingly few songs that I can think of with the word "weekend" in the title. To tell you the truth, outside of Loverboy, the only one I can think of would be The Jam's "Here Comes the Weekend," which is a mighty fine one.
Leave a comment if you can think of any other weekend songs. Surely there's more than this...
